Herbert the Wedding Singe
Things have been quite hectic around here, but some knitting has been done and I promise to post about that in the near future. Today though is all about cloth diapers. We got our first cloth diaper kit today (it was on sale for a great price) and I prepped a bunch of the diapers last night. You may be asking yourself why you would need to prep a cloth diaper. Well, we have the organic unbleached prefold variety and you have to wash them on hot a bunch of times to ensure that all of the plant oils that may inhibit absorption have been removed. Since the Captain and I have never cloth diapered before in our lives, we enlisted Herbert (the wedding singe) as our stand-in baby.
In the first image, Herbert is kindly modeling the prefold diaper itself, fastened shut with a snappi. The snappi is really cool because it eliminates the need for diaper pins. We have been practicing the ‘jelly roll’ fold. From all of my research it seems to be the best for containment. In the second image, we have put a super cute Bummis Super Whisper Wrap (that came with the kit) over the diaper. The wrap serves to hold all the moisture in and, well… the frog print cracks me up. The final photo has Herbert modeling a hand knit soaker over the diaper. The lovely Sarah at theoriesofstring knit this up for us as a baby giftsuper sweet. I intend to use the wool soakers for around the house time and use the wraps when we are out and about. Now we just have to wait 17 more weeks to have a baby to use these things. Many thanks to Herbert for being such a good sport, and also to all the YouTube videos that taught us how to jelly roll.
